چکیده

The broad application of chemical crop protectants and intensive plant breeding for the devel opm ent o f agriculture and the management of plant disease have created conditions of environ mental concern. Molecular genetic methods are being applied to the analysis of phytopathogenic fungi and their corresponding diseases. Rapid developm ent o f this research field will permit the isolation and characterization of genes involved in pathogenic processes. A detailed understand ing o f the molecular events of disease onset and progression will facilitate the design of improved procedures for disease prevention and control. Antifungal activity of recombinant rice LTP2 on some phytopathogenic fungi

Plant lipid transfer proteins (LTPs) are members of the pathogenesis-related proteins (PR-14) and some of them exhibit activity against phytopathogenic fungi. To investigate whether rice LTP2 plays a role in antifungal activity, the coding region of an Iranian rice Ltp2 gene was cloned into expression vector pET24-d(+) and then expressed in Escherichia coli Rosetta strain (DE3). The potential a...

Transformation of Potato (Solanum tuberosumcv.Savalan) by Chitinase and β-1,3-Glucanase Genes of Myco-Parasitic Fungi Towards Improving Resistance to Rhizoctonia solani AG-3

Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) an agro-economically important food crop in the world, is sensitive to many fungal pathogens including Rhizoctonia solani (AG-3), the causal agent of stem and root rot diseases. Chitinase and glucanase are cell wall degrading enzymes which have been shown to have high antifungal activity against a wide range of phytopathogenic fungi. In the present study, plasmid p...

Chemical composition and antifungal activity of thyme (Thymus vulgaris) essential oil

Background and objectives: The antifungal activity of the essential oils and their constituents against some phytopathogenic fungi has been reported. Thymus vulgaris (Lamiaceae) is one of the Thymus species.  A large number of studies have concerned the chemical compositions and antifungal activity of thyme’s oil. In order to reduce the use of synthetic fungic...

Diversity and Biological Activities of Endophytic Fungi Associated with Micropropagated Medicinal Plant Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench

Echinacea is one of the top ten selling medicinal herbs in Europe and United States. Commercially available formulations may contain different plant parts of three species (Echinacea purpurea, E. pallida, and E. angustifolia). Our study evaluates the diversity of microbial community associated with healthy E. purpurea clones and their ability to produce defense compounds. We recovered and ident...

Plant pathogens: how can molecular genetic information on plant pathogens assist in breeding disease resistant crops

Numerous phytopathogenic fungi and Oomycete species cause disease on crop plants. Over the past 17 years a combination of protein purification and forward and reverse genetics has lead to the identification of > 150 distinct pathogenicity and virulence genes required by pathogens to cause disease. Many conserved molecular mechanisms are now recognised that underpin the pathogenesis of very dive...
